Snapchat announced a new web app in July, marking the first time the platform was offered beyond mobile. Now, Snapchat says that the web version was only available to paid subscribers but now it is open to all users.
The web version gives users more surface space for chatting and video calling with friends in the same window. One hundred million users use Snapchat to talk to others every month, the company said in July.
Snapchat for Web was originally released as a flagship offering for Snapchat Plus subscribers, who pay a few dollars a month for early and exclusive access to features. The paid tier is a new way Snap hopes to monetize, and early signs are already showing success, with more than a million users signed up on Snapchat in the first six weeks.
