Windows says support for Windows 8.1 is reportedly ending next year

If someone is still using Windows 8.1 as the operating system of their PC or Laptop, it is time to upgrade it. Microsoft has announced that the last update for Windows 8.1 will be released on January 10, 2023. The company has stated that it has already started notifying Windows 8.1 users about the end of this support.

Below is the notification received in that way. It seems that you can choose three options: to learn more about this update, to be notified later, or to be reminded when support stops. This notice is not a "hard" notice like the notices given when support for previous operating systems was discontinued. It is special that there is an option like do not do the notification until January 10th, and you can arrange to see this notification once a month with an option like "Remind me later".

Windows 8.1

Since there are already a very small number of Windows 8.1 users, it seems that Microsoft is not ready to force this update as before. For example, before Windows XP and Windows 7 were discontinued, there were many people who used those operating systems. But like those operating systems, Windows 8 was not very popular, and with the free Windows 10 upgrade, the vast majority of Windows users started using Windows 10.

Even though Microsoft advertises free operating system upgrades for almost a year, you can still use a Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 key to upgrade to Windows 11. It means that you can use a Windows 7, 8.1 key to upgrade to Windows 10. It is best to upgrade to Windows 10 as Windows 11 does not support all hardware that Windows 10 supports. Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 will be supported until 2025.

Even after the end of support, Windows 8.1 can be used without any problems, but no updates will be received. It is possible to continue everything done on the computer in the same way, however, it is reported that the store will be closed in July 2023.
