Toyota, the world's largest automaker, said in a statement on Tuesday that it had stopped supplying plastics and electronics to its flagship car maker due to a cyber attack. For this reason, the company has decided to temporarily suspend production of Toyota cars in Japan.

The company's ordering system has crashed due to a problem with the computer system of auto parts manufacturer Kojima Industries. They have decided to shut down the computer system to prevent this problem from spreading to consumers, which first occurred last Saturday.

Japanese government officials confirmed on Tuesday that Kojima Industries' computer system had been hit by a cyber attack.

At a press conference, Chief Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said that the government was investigating the source of the cyber attack and had instructed its companies to strengthen cyber security in the wake of the Ukraine-Russia crisis.

Production at 14 local Toyota factories in Japan has been suspended and production of about 13,000 cars has been halted.
